Mike Murchison

Mike Murchison is a Long Beach native who has dedicated his career to solving complex public policy, infrastructure, and environmental challenges while serving the community he has always called home.  

A graduate of Wilson High School and the University of Southern California, Mike began his career in local government before joining Earth Tech, where he worked with cities throughout the country to help design, finance, construct, and operate the systems that treat and deliver clean water. That experience gave him a firsthand understanding of the critical infrastructure families and businesses depend on every day.

As the owner of a small business, Mike brings together communities, public agencies, and environmental stakeholders to solve complex water, infrastructure, and conservation challenges.

One of Mike's proudest accomplishments was helping lead the effort to transform an aging coastal oil field into more than 150 acres of restored wetlands and public open space. Over a decade, he worked alongside landowners, neighborhood organizations, environmental advocates, public agencies, and elected officials to help make the Los Cerritos Wetlands restoration a reality—one of the largest additions of public open space in Long Beach in decades. His work has reinforced his belief that thoughtful collaboration can produce lasting environmental benefits for future generations.

Service has always been central to Mike's life. He has served on numerous nonprofit and business organization boards, including as a Trustee of the Bess Hodges Foundation and the Clancy Foundation. He also created the Long Beach Grand Prix Educational Series, bringing road safety education into local schools. 

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mike and his wife, Tracy, launched the Long Beach Challenge, raising more than $87,000 to provide meals for local families experiencing food insecurity. Continuing that commitment to community service, they recently established the Long Beach Non-Profit Creative Challenge, an innovative grant program designed to encourage creativity, collaboration, and new solutions among Long Beach nonprofit organizations.

Mike's commitment to serving others has been recognized throughout the community. He and his father were honored by Ronald McDonald House Charities with its prestigious "A Few Good Men" award in recognition of their philanthropic leadership and dedication to helping families in need.

Mike has also been a strong advocate for responsible public policy and fiscal accountability. He spoke up on behalf of local families and seniors when proposed water-rate increases threatened to place additional strain on household budgets. He believes that every public agency has a responsibility to protect both essential resources and the taxpayers who fund them.

Today, Mike is running for the Water Replenishment District Board, Division 3, because he believes protecting Southern California's groundwater is one of the most important responsibilities of local government. More than four million residents rely on the region's groundwater basin for a safe and dependable water supply. Mike knows that protecting water quality, investing responsibly in groundwater replenishment, planning for future water reliability, and exercising careful oversight of public funds are essential to ensuring that future generations continue to enjoy clean, reliable, and affordable water.

Drawing on decades of experience in water infrastructure, environmental stewardship, public policy, and community leadership, Mike is committed to bringing practical leadership, independent judgment, transparency, and fiscal responsibility to the Water Replenishment District Board.
